# Chang upgrade #1 - Readiness

**Notice for node users**

The hard fork working group has identified an issue with ledger state snapshots - requiring a hotfix to prevent longer syncs when nodes restart. A hotfix is already underway and will be available in the coming hours!

* If you restart your node with node version 9.0.0 or node version 9.1.0 following the Chang hard fork, you must replay the chain from the genesis block each time it restarts. This can take around 90 minutes.
* The hotfix (node version 9.1.1) will prevent nodes from replaying from Genesis and instead replay as normal. If an upgrade is made from an earlier version than node 9.0.0, then one replay from Genesis will be required, but the node will behave normally.

**Action**

* It is recommended that you avoid restarting your node until this hotfix is applied (including automated restarts). Tool providers may stagger node restarts until they have upgraded to maintain adequate service.

* The hardfork working group met on 2024-08-28 to discuss the Go / No Decision, the group unanimously agreed to proceed with the hardfork mainnet on 1st September.
  * The hardfork action was subsequently signed by the genesis keys and submitted to chain: [see transaction via cardanoscan](https://cardanoscan.io/transaction/9ba6a580bceb8f94e65a683e8291c89382835f46e3cf928eb521f5581ade4820?tab=protocolupdates).
* By **Stake**, over <mark style="color:green;">**92%**</mark> of **SPOs** on 9.1.0 - the desired hard fork threshold for SPOs has been reached :tada:
* By **Liquidity,** over <mark style="color:green;">**92%**</mark> of Exchanges on 9.1.0 - the desired hard fork threshold for exchanges has been reached :tada:
* TVL by top 20 DApp projects are over <mark style="color:green;">**83%**</mark> ready, with steady progress and testing on PreProd from August 24.
* **The time to upgrade is now!** If there is a specific reason or dependency that means your upgrade cannot be achieved, the community and ecosystem need to know from you. Please reach out to us at `@Intersectmbo` or <hard-fork@intersectmbo.org> as soon as possible. The hard fork working group will review feedback daily
* The Ledger (hardware wallet) team just released Cardano App `1.7.3` which fixes the issues with the Ledger Nano S device. This means that now ALL hardware wallets devices are Chang ready! (see [announcement](https://x.com/ATADA_Stakepool/status/1828788278373548248)).

#### **Key**

* **no governance features:** Indicates that a wallet has updated their infrastructure to be able to survive the hardfork. But they have not added any new features to be able to interact with on-chain governance.

### Supporting Governance Initiatives - Readiness

The Chang #1 hardfork will introduce governance to Cardano, specific tooling is being developed to support the governance model.

Whilst having governance tools prepared for mainnet hardfork is ideal, these tools should not block mainnet hardfork.
